"Well?" asked Will, turning to his friend, "How did I do?"
Allan lifted his head out of his hands, clearly shaken. "The woman," he said, his voice shaky, "what about Mary at the corner?"
"She jumped out of the way," said Will, "Her husband waved at us as we passed."
"That was a shaken fist, not a wave," replied Allan, "I doubt George'll speak to me again. Shame. He was a useful man to be in with," he added quietly.
"OK, maybe I was a little fast round the back lanes, but my braking was good, wasn't it?"
"You did notice me grabbing the reins and pulling ‘ard, didn't you?"
"No?"
"Well that would explain poor old Mary."
"But you will take me out for another lesson, won't you?"
Allan shook his head for a moment, "Only if I've ‘ad a few strong pints first."
