Summary: Allan seeks his father’s comfort.
Allan Smith of Rochdale, now known as the outlaw Allan A' Dale, stole quietly into his former home. His father lay on a pallet against the wall, snoring loudly. It had been less than two weeks since Tom had been caught and hung by the Sheriff of Nottingham, and despite their best intentions, Robin and the gang could offer him no comfort. He missed his brother, despite Tom’s many faults. No one in the gang could ever know what he had sacrificed for Tom, nor how much he had enjoyed the sacrifice at times; they would never understand. Allan lay down beside his father, wanting the comfort of the man’s arms around him, even if it was unnatural, even if he woke up swinging. Martin Smith rolled over and snuggled close to his oldest son, murmuring in his sleep. Allan wiped the tears away and sighed as he settled closer to his father’s big strong body.
