What's been happening in my neck of the woods?
It's been a hot and lazy summer. I've used an abused my poor rosebushes that came with the house we bought back in August, but I got some wonderful advice from my sister's mother-in-law, who has always had beautiful gardens for at least as long as I've known her. So, next trip to the garden center I'll pick up some Miracle-Gro for roses and lots of mulch. I hope the roses will forgive my lack of experience. They are so unlike the vine roses in the front yard that i cut completely to the ground when we moved in (because they were always sprawled onto the sidewalk, and you couldn't pass without getting snagged). We planned to replace them with something else, but hadn't decided what. Then, in the spring, they grew back and are now sporting some lovely pink roses. I weaved them through a small trellis to keep them tame.
A couple months ago I developed a pinched nerve in my neck due to arthritis in the neck. My whole left arm soon grew very painful, and when the doctor diagnosed it, he put me on some anti-inflamatories and muscle relaxers, and recommended me to a physical therapist. In lieu of the PT, I went to a chiropractor that my sister recommended. WOW. I've been to chiropractors before, but it had been years. I didn't remember how much I really loved them, especially the one I have now. She's a true blessing! Before treatment, my hand was numb, my arm extremely painful, and I had no strength. Now, the only memory of the pinched nerve is a slight reduction in my overall hand strength, probably accentuated by my CMT. But the pain is gone. :-D
We bought an electric lawn mower in April, and the thing died this morning. Hubby and I have been married for almost 29 years, and we've bought almost that many lawnmowers. I don't know what he does with them, maybe mows hidden metal somewhere, but we've rarely had a lawnmower last more than one or two years before it would give up the ghost. They were usually cheap ones, but even when we invested in more expensive mowers, he'd still have trouble with them. *sigh*
I've finally starting loosing weight...just by cutting waaaay back (i haven't had luck with cutting outing completely) on whites: white sugar, white flour, white rice, and white potatoes. All the water aerobics I've been doing have helped me feel better and strengthened muscles, but I never really lost anything until I improved my diet. So far I've lost almost 10 pounds. Lots to go, but it's a good start. :-)
I'm also still playing LOTRO, which is really fun...almost too fun. I have to get my stuff done before I play, or it won't get done. And I still belong to the Red Hat Society, although I can only wear pink until my 50th birthday. On that day, I'll have my REDuation ceremony...LOL
My youngest sister, the one living in Holister, CA, is coming down with her husband next week. My other sister lives here, as well as our dad, so we're gonna have a wonderful time. They're also going to check out a local Bed & Breakfast that's for sale in the Dallas area. They've always wanted to own one, and we would absolutely love it if they would set one up here and move down. I have been blessed with a close family (although we do argue a bit....) and it would be just amazing if we all lived close to each other. We haven't all lived in the same state since before I was married back in '79......
I'm reading a new book that just came out by a new author and fellow Lord of the Rings fan...aka Primula Baggins on the Hall of Fire message boards...Kristin Landon. The first, Hidden Worlds, came out last year, and the one I'm reading now is the sequel, The Cold Minds. It's sci-fi, and very good. I'm not good at giving reviews, so if anyone is interested, you'll have to check it out for yourself. But I'm enjoying them quite a bit.
Other reading is devoted to studying biblical prophecies and other topics of the bible. Looking at the troubles going on in the world, it's very interesting to compare them with what the bible has prophesied so long ago.
There's probably lots more that's been going on with me, but nothing major that I can think of....except being lazy with my lj and message boards. :-\
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer.
