A few weeks ago I had a short but vivid dream in which I was in a store with someone. I was wearing a t-shirt with a pocket. I felt something moving around in the pocket. It was a tiny snake with light blue and coral rings. I tossed it aside and went on with my business.
I attributed the dream to the fact that I had seen a story on the news advising people to watch out for snakes1 this spring.
Last night I had a very strange dream. I was at my parents' house. It was night. I was sitting in the living room with my sister Nancy, Dad, and my sister-in-law, Dee Ann. There was a knock on the front door. It was two middle-aged women who I knew to be Dee Ann's grandmother and my cousin Elanor's sister.2 They had a little boy with them who was about eight years old. He had very thick and curly brown hair.
We visited for a while and had a pleasant chat about nothing in particular with the women. Dee Ann seemed especially happy to see her grandmother. The little boy stood by the chair where Dee Ann's grandmother was sitting. He didn't say anything the whole time but observed us as we talked. After not too long the women announced that they had to leave as it was time to give the little boy his head lice treatment3. They all left through the back door.
Once they were gone, we were all concerned that we had gotten head lice from the little boy. We walked into the bathroom and turned on the light. Sure enough, there was lice crawling on the bathroom floor. There was also a large roach and a centipede-like bug on the floor. Someone sprinkled Cheetos dust on the floor, hoping to attract the lice to it but the roach started eating it all, sucking it up like a vacuum cleaner.
I remembered I had the snake in my pocket. I took it out and put it on the floor. It started eating the bugs.
This has reminded me of the
turtle dream I had last year and how it lead me to learn about turtle medicine and how that, in turn, gave me a feeling of peace and calm that last several months. So this morning I read up a little about snake medicine.
The medicine of Snake is transmutation. ... Snake medicine is powerful medicine because transmutation is essential to all life. The Snake sheds his old skin in the transmutation process bringing forth his new self. Allowing all that is past to be released as he has outgrown it, released it and now welcomes all that is positive and new to be engaged. Snake relies on his internal life-force to determine when the time it right to call on his transmutation powers. Snake medicine is the ... rising serpent to our own awakening. Snake asks you to shed your old ways and transmute into the New You. A new cycle is about to begin and your new growth is at hand. Embrace the wisdom snake has brought your way. It may be time for a change.
Snake comes to you at a time when you are heading for change. You are ready to explore the mysterious, voyage where you have never gone before, whether in the physical world or in the depths of the mind and soul. People with Snake medicine know the power of renewal. Snake sheds his skin leaving it behind and slithering away completely renewed. Snake people can do the same, shedding their dull layers to reveal a brilliant new self underneath.
So, yeah, with graduation about a month away (and my lease expiring) change is definitely at hand. Interesting how these symbols come up in my dreams without me knowing anything about their associations. I certainly should look more into this.
1 Intentional MST3k reference on my part
2 The dream versions of these people were much younger than the actual woman (both of whom I think are dead now anyway) and neither looked like anyone I know. I never really knew either of them and I'm pretty sure they did not know each other.
3 Then this morning I saw
this comic about head lice.
ETA:
The snake has long been a symbol of death and rebirth. Before it sheds its skin, its eyes begin to cloud over, as if to indicate it is entering into a stage between life and death.
My eyes have been hurting like a son of a bitch lately and my vision has been a little off.
