Cable vs. DSL

Well, my internet is working again but for how long is anyone's guess. I am seriously considering ditching Earthlin DSL. The service has been awful this summer. Unfortunately, where I live it looks like my only viable option is cable internet from Cox. I can get their second fastest connection for about what I'm paying for Earthlink. My Earthlink DSL has been clocking in around 450 kbps download and 200 kbps upload which is, to me, unacceptable.

Anyone have any experience with cable internet? What should I look out for? What questions should I ask? My only cable thingie is in the living room and the computer is in the bedroom. Will that be an issue? I have not had cable TV since moving to Tucson, by the way.

I really need reliable, stable internet connectivity for school (and also for not going insane with frustration while trying to complete a mission in City of Heroes). I would also like to stop having to call tech support every night for it makes me blind with rage when I have to verify that I do know the modem is turned on.

internet, customer service
