1. I had lost my job. Someone told me that a coal mine south of Tucson was hiring. One morning I drove my sporty little European convertible to the mine complex to see if they would give me a job.
When I arrived there was a large group of protesters gathering. I parked my car and started walking up to the main building. Several cars pulled up behind me and bunch of reports got out led by an older Native American man. He had white hair and was wearing a dark suit. Somehow I knew he worked at the mine and thought he was awfully nicely dressed for a coal minor. He told the reporters he was going to show them the room where the owners of the mine held employees against their will if they complained about anything or tried to organize. He claimed they were currently holding a young woman. I thought he should be more discreet or else the woman could be moved before he got there with the reporters.
They walked off and I wandered around the complex. The company store was close even though the sign said they should be open. From another building, a woman was talking to another group of people through iron bars on the window. She worked for the mine and was explaining that another 6% of the miners had been laid off and more cuts would be announced later.
At that point I decided there was no way I would be able to get a job there. On the way back to the car I was thinking I wouldn't want to work there anyway, given all the accusations flying. I ran into
tabor36 who was there with the protesters. He started explaining to me all the labor troubles at the mine. I offered him a ride back to Tucson and he got in the backseat of my car. My nephew Jason (who was living with me but hadn't appeared in the dream until this point) got in the passenger side. We got on the highway and headed back to Tucson. I had a lot of questions for
tabor36 about the labor problems at coal mines and he was answering them as we drove.
2. I had a series of waking dreams this morning, at least three deep. I don't recall ever having dreams like this before.
I got up to get ready for work. However, there were so many dirty towels on the bathroom floor I couldn't get the door open. I eventually got in and started picking things up. There were blankets and pillows on the bathroom floor, too, and I didn't know how they'd got there. I looked around the rest of the apartment and nothing was where it belonged. My tool box and cocktail shaker were in the middle of the living room floor, along with my old tables that I gave away over a year ago. I was upset and frustrated that my apartment was such a mess. I bit down on one of the towels I was carrying and started screaming and that woke me up.
So I got up to get ready for work. I pulled back the shower curtain to find something weird in the tub. It was a clear plastic cup with about a dozen flexible plastic tubes about the size of drinking straws in it. There was a pinkish red liquid in the cup. I picked it up, which was hard because the straws were flopping all over the place. The cup was labeled "Shoe Shampoo" and I realized that Nancy must have left it behind when she was visiting. I went to sit on the edge of the tub but it spilled. I grabbed a towel and tried to wipe it up but the pink was staining everything. I thought that it was bad shampoo if it turned everything pink. After I had that thought, it became much easier to clean up and that realization woke me up.
So I got up to get ready for work. I was standing in front of the toilet getting ready to pee and I thought, "I hope I'm really awake this time." And that thought woke me up.
So I got up to get ready for work.
I'm pretty sure I'm really awake now.
