Well, I decided that I couldn't wait around all night for the rain to end so I dug out my trusty slicker and headed for the car. Walking down the sidewalk, I thought some of the rain drops looked awful big. And white. And, holy shit, it hit me. It was snowing.
It was pretty wimpy and not sticking well. Luckily, I still had my ice scrapper with a brush so I was able to clean off my car. Towlie* helped me see out the windshield until the defogger, which I quite possibly had never used before in this car, kicked in and took over.
The snow didn't look like it was going to amount to much. When I came out of Target it had all but stopped. Then I went to the grocery store. When I got done there, the cars in the parking lot were covered and it was actually starting to stick to the ground. I've seen snow flurries and such here in Tucson but I have never, ever seen it snow like this. The flakes are huge and wet.
People were mostly driving very cautiously. Since it had rained all day the biggest driving hazard were the partially flooded roads and giant puddles. The roads aren't slick yet but it's supposed to get below freezing tonight. This could be an interesting trip to work in the morning.
*Several months ago, I put an old blue towel in the car with the intent of going to the car wash, which I never did. The towel, on the other hand, has come in handy several times for several different reasons. Don't forget to bring a towel!
