I am now going to tell people in Tucson how they must vote next week on the ballot initiatives. All you Tucsonans pay attention! Feel free to print this and take it to the polls with you.

Yeah, I suspected you would and I was glad you did.
Frankly, I was really on the fence about that one. After your comment I went back and re-read the proposition. It is calling for very minimal improvements, like not keeping breeding sows stuck in cages for 8 months out of the year and letting veal cows learn how to walk. Really, it's very basic improvements.
People who are strongly opposed to this say it is the first step toward outlawing meat. I think those people are whacked, frankly, and I never saw this as a threat to my own meat eating.
For what's it's worth, I have not eaten beef since I was in college. I eat very little pork. I do eat tons of chicken. I should eat more fish. To me it's not about how cute the animal is or any ethical concern. I cut out red meat because it's healthier for me not to eat it. I don't make a lot of other good diet choices, frankly, but I'm pretty happy with this one.
People nowadays have no respect for where meat comes from. You buy it in the store where it's all neatly packaged and even if you do know where it really comes from you don't have to think about it. There is no respect for the animal that gave its life to sustain our own.
So, yeah, I'm going to vote for this now. Thank you for helping me decide.
