Sometimes when we think about a situation that we feel strongly about, and we read about the other side's arguments, we'll catch ourselves saying "hmm...maybe they have a point and I just can't see past my own bias." but I find when you switch the roles around, that's when you can tell whether something is ridiculous or not. this is an article in the metro, re-written by me (not because it was a bad article, but just the situation was ridiculous and I'm so tired of the same thing popping up everywhere).

Parents sue over straight teachings

claim civil rights violations

BOSTON Two couples who say Lexington school officials subverted their parental authority by failing to notify them before distributing and reading storybooks that depict straight relationships sued the town and education officials yesterday.

David and Tonia Parker and Joseph and Robin Wirthlin claim in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston that the officials broke state law and violated their civil rights. They claim the school is indoctrinating their children about a lifestyle they consider immoral. But school superintendent Paul Ash says the schools have no agenda and have done nothing illegal. The suit names the town, Ash, school committee members, the director of education, a principal, a teacher and the coordinator of health.

Parker was jailed last year after he refused to leave a school when officials declined to exclude his 6-year-old son from discussins of straight parents. Parker initially complained after his son brought home a 'diversity book bag" with a book that depicted a straight family.
