An interesting day

Aug 30, 2005 21:34

Sorry about my depressive outburst this morning. I was just in a really weird mood. The cat was frustrating me, my best friend was being extremely weird, and I was still trying to recover from something extremely hurtful said to me last night. So I was just really blah right before I left for work this morning. I want to thank insanebiboy and batlemastr for their comments and calls. It meant a lot to me to have the checkup.

Other than that I worked today. It was kind of interesting. One particular call that I got early on was a customer requesting proofs. They were calling to check to see if they had been sent any. I checked in the system and proofs were sent out in mid-July. They said they never got them. I checked the company schedule for that particular book and the proof amend date (the last day to make ad changes) was August 8. I told the customer that it was too late to make changes but I could send her final ad copies. She understood and asked me to fax them to her. Three hours later, I get a call on my direct line. I don't usually answer my direct line but I did this time because I was expecting a call from a sales rep regarding a claim I have. But it was the owner of this business and he was upset because he couldn't make any changes and it wasn't what he wanted. I apologized to him but advised him that it was too late to make changes as the book has been sent to the printer. He got even more mad and said that his sales rep didn't do what he was supposed to do by faxing him proofs after the last set of changes were made. I kindly told him that we never fax proofs unless specifically asked from customer service. We always mail them and even that is not guaranteed due to time constraints if it is late in the production process. All of this is clearly stated on the contract. He then told me to stop giving him bullshit answers. I asked him not to use that language with me (yes, I do cuss all the time but when it comes to being professional on the phone, I have standards, and we are not required to take crap from customers). He then tried to tell me that it was not a bad word. I told him that I found the language offensive and asked to keep the conversation at a professional tone. He then said he'd call his sales rep and hung up on me. It was then time for my lunch so I went to lunch and let that go. Later on this evening I saw a call come in on my direct line. It was the guy I talked to. He called to apologize for the way he spoke to me. I didn't call him back but I really appreciated the call back. I might call him back tomorrow on my time off the phones. But I'm not sure. We shall see.

I can't wait until Minou gets used to my schedule and she will go to sleep when I do. She doesn't keep me up all night but she loves to play on the bed and her play involves claws. The noise can get annoying and sometimes she scratches me and then I put her down on the floor but she keeps coming back for more. But when she settles down she is so cute. She has found a spot right on my pillow and she likes to curl up in my hair. It's so cute. And she's eating on her own!! Yay!! Now if only she would take medicine willingly I'd be set. But Megan told me a good trick. If I wrap her up in a towel and hold her really tight she won't squirm so much. She's really good at taking her amoxicillin but the eye drops can be a challenge. But her cold is clearing up nicely.

I can't believe the devastation that my aunt is causing in New Orleans. (Don't get me wrong, I love my aunt, I just think it's cool that they named a hurricane after her.) I tried to call Jan Boney because she spends a lot of time in Lafayette, LA (about an hour west of New Orleans). I know she's coming back to teach for block 1 but I'm not sure when she's coming back. I tried to call her cell phone (with a Lafayette number) but could not get through. I tried calling at Cornell but all I got was voice mail. I'm gonna try to e-mail her and see if I hear back. I'm sure she's fine though.

Well, I've just been going on and on and on, huh? I won't make this too long. I'm feeling much better than I was this morning and I thank you all for your support. Hopefully I won't have any episodes like that for a while.

Until next time, ever onward!
