I just read this and I'm shaking with excitement...

Ten things you need to know about the new Rachel Stevens single
Story filed by Popjustice

1
The intro sounds like Fischerspooner's 'Emerge'. Given that 'Emerge' was three years ahead of its time in July 2002, and 'Negotiate With Love' is out in March 2005, Rachel is officially ahead of her time, albeit only by four months. But four months is still 1.33 seasons. That's, like, all of the summer and a bit of autumn. How awesome is that?

2
Rachel counts herself into the first verse with an austere "2, 3...", and also asks for the backing track to be turned up (with a polite "please") in the second verse. How very postmodern!

3
Postmodern or not, the backing track remains at exactly the same volume. Nobody, it would appear, likes a book-reading clever-clogs.

4
There's LOADS of surf guitar. Including one specacular segment at the end of the middle eight which is, let's be honest here, straight out of 'Sound Of The Underground'.

5
Lyrically the song's a classic "Bugger this, I'm off" end-of-relationship saga, featuring as it does a Rachel who's "thinking back in time, starting to realise I could have done much better than you". Well get her, etc etc.

6
The final lines of the verse - "Now you think you're in the clear. Well let me tell you, dear - soon you'll realise your mistake" - take us to an arms-aloft chorus with Rachel doing her best Debbie Harry impression and chanting "The case is closed, I don't negotiate with love / You made your choice I won't negotiate with love".

7
And then there's a really high-pitched portion that sounds like the "You pick us up to knock us down..." bit from North & South's 'Tarantino's New Star'.

8
If you're thinking 'This song sounds quite brilliant indeed', you'd be right. So hats off to whoever wrote and produced it. They're from Sweden apparently. We were told their names but we've forgotten them. Basically, once we find out we'll replace this bit with something at least bordering on being authoritative, and we'll pretend none of this ever happened.

9
The single's out in March, with another single to follow and then an album, but 'Negotiate With Love' is already Number One in the comedy Popjustice Chart Of Truth.

10
Most importantly, prepare to suspend your disbelief: there's more than one good song on Rachel's new album. In fact some of the songs are even better than 'Negotiate With Love' and could turn Rachel into a one-woman Girls Aloud. (Stop groaning at the back - now we'll have two acts to go overboard on, conjuring at least an illusion of variety.) Seriously. Some of you lot are going to just shit yourselves when you hear this stuff.
