Yesterday I headed into the city to do a little shopping, and, of course, I dropped into Mind Games to drool over the games I can't afford at the moment. While there, I was informed by Kim that there was to be an Alhambra tournament there today (oh, and by the way, they were short on players and maybe I might know some people...?). So I said I'd be there, and sent a text message to those people who both might be interested and were represented in my mobile's contact list. Only
persephone_20 and
psuedonym777 responded in the affirmative, so today the three of us headed in together to play. I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear that I won the tournament (despite only winning two of my three games, while two players, including
persephone_20, won two out of three).
persephone_20 placed third, and
psuedonym777 came in fifth. That's out of eight players total (which was a good number for this tournament).
So now, I have a new game as a prize: Wallenstein, for which I have downloaded English-language rules (for the game only comes with rules in German). It is likely to get broken in next Friday night. I would also be eligible to travel to Canberra to compete in a tournament at Cancon, but (as I'm sure all those reading this know) I'll be running an event at Arcanacon that same weekend. If I won the tournament at Cancon, I would be flying to Essen to compete there, but no, there's been a Hades of a lot of work put into the game for Arc, so that's not happening. My refusal to go to Cancon means that
psuedonym777 became eligible (because it is the top four who get to go). He said he'd rather go to Arc too.
persephone_20 considered going to Canberra, but said all her Canberra friends would be in Melbourne for Arc that weekend. So it was pretty much a case of, anyone at the tournament who wanted to compete at Cancon can go.
In other news, I've started studying for two more certification exams. Not sure which I'll do first. I've also figured out a bit more of Microsoft's certification structure, and realised that I've been claiming to have a certification that doesn't exist. That means that even after passing another exam on Friday, I've only got three MCTSs. Eh, it'll be four by the end of the year anyway.
