my mind is a swamp

I haven't done anything. Not really.

I haven't written a page or even loaded up Final Cut yet. You'd think the grant money I won would light a fire under my ass, but it has yet to. I guess knowing I can't officially start until 2009 has provided me an excuse to procrastinate. Plus, cold weather, slightly sick, busy working, all that. I think the added stress of knowing I need to jump into Open, combined with the newfound concern about when I'll find time to return to Every Room Is Empty, combined with the creative schism of working simultaneously on two stories (Uncanny Valley and The World of Missing Persons -- I tried to shift gears to the latter but I keep realizing ideas or plot points for the former)... anyway my brain's a mess.

I've watched a lot of movies lately, kind of half-brainless ones. Saving Private Ryan (significantly better than I remembered, to be honest); Hollow Man (exactly how I remembered it: good scifi start, okay thriller middle, shitty killer-movie end, all of it feeling rushed and flat); Dawn of the Dead (the watching of it was only okay, but somehow it's really sticking with me, which makes me like it more); got halfway through Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid before falling asleep.

Now I'm watching The Dark Knight, still marveling at the good bits, browsing the internet through the exposition, petting my lapcat. I napped (through the Pekinpah film) from 9pm to 2:30am, and I don't work tomorrow until 1, so I feel like I really ought to be writing right now, but I just can't find a way in. I'm too muddled. I may just have to bring my crappy-dialogued fifteen pages of TWOMP to group this Thursday and ask them to kickstart me. I'd like to go through Victor's scenes, at least, since I hate all his mumbly talking-to-himself lines right now, but we'll see if I can even manage.

every room is empty, the world of missing persons, christopher nolan, steven spielberg, open, writingland, paul verhoeven, sam pekinpah, uncanny valley, filmnerd, inane, george romero
