I'm actually very upset by this, and have been loosely following the story since the arrest of Max Hardcore, a disturbingly graphic and faux-abusive pornographer. They couldn't find a DA who was willing to prosecute this horseshit case of "obscenity" so they took the Pasadena-based case to Tampa Bay, FL, where they found a judicial system puritanical enough to sentence a man to four years in prison for engaging in legal, consensual (dirty, unpleasant) roughplay sex.

This bothers me about our society so much more than all the big business ecological fuckups and wars over oil and mismanagements of finance and abuses of power and religious dogma. This to me seems as much the beginning of the end as anything else: I really see it as the destruction of culture, which for better or worse has always meant more to me than the environment or the economy. Above all things I believe in, I believe in humans. I consider myself a humanist in the loosest and least political sense of the word, and when this can happen in the same country I am supposed to feel a part of, and represented and protected by, well. It's one small step for neo-con extremism but it's one giant leap into totalitarianism.

Not to mention the hypocrisy of (as the article linked above points out) this four-year prison sentence being handed out by the very same DOJ who's keen on turning a blind eye to simulated executions and actual torture of human beings who have not agreed and consented to play along.

We are such a backwards culture, en masse, terrified of sex and obsessed with this dogmatic, insane sense of propriety. Teens with cell phones are now considered sex offenders (two stories in one day, too!). The MPAA declares any film showing pubic hair or a woman enjoying sex as obscene, but the Saw films and graphic horrifying scenes of rape are fine. Guns are good and breasts are bad. Killing unmercifully is fine, but feeling pleasure with (or, hell, even about) your own body is frowned upon. I can't live in this society.

In other news: I shoot in three days and I'm still a little worried about the schedule.

every room is empty, sex, link, law, anti-american, rant, porn, news, soapbox, the end of the world, freedom
