So I'm pretty sure I've named the story Every Room is Empty. The name seems to be sticking. As I write, I've been referring occasionally to some flickr photos I've stolen out of my Favorites List as reference/inspiration for Jon and I.
Of course, there are plenty more, just vague ideas, examples of framing or mood or texture or color palette, but that's a good healthy start. And that doesn't even cover the Pixelvision photography we're going to try for, courtesy Miss Melissa Tvetan. And projected footage? Could be. (If it doesn't muddy things up too much, overcomplicate the visuals.)
The date will almost certainly be pushed back, but no more than two weeks I hope. Longer than that and I'll start worrying. This is going to be a sketchpad film, and probably more like Love is Suicide than the others -- this is definitely going to be me trying some of the narrative and visual stylistic tricks I want to eventually use on a bigger (feature-length) scale, so this is important. And the longer I sit on these, the less likely it comes together. "You must strike while the iron is hot," as the saying goes, and one-day narrative experiments get hot fast and don't stay hot long. (The goal would be to wait and see if Jon can afford to buy an HD camera, but my gut tells me I won't have the patience for that and I'll be renting one for this, and possibly shooting on his for the next. We'll see how it all goes down.)
Things come together. I can only hope this is all a good idea. Keeping me fresh, keeping my hands off Open until December, so as to do right by the RACC people (fingers crossed!), and making steps toward the kind of films I want to make, the kind I feel capable of making, and away from the same ones I keep making over and over. (Not that I don't love them, too.)
