For about two years, about two years ago, I was a subscriber to and reader of the design magazine
Res, and one of the only things I really gleaned from this (apart from a collection of animation-based short films on DVD and keeping up with every new Beck music video) is that
MK12 are cool. They're a design firm responsible for, among other things, the Faint's "Agenda Suicide" music video and the cool/simple floating text in portions of Stranger Than Fiction. (I swore they did the title sequence to the new James Bond movie, but Google says it was Daniel Kleinman, though honestly he was kind of doing an MK12-y thing when he did it.)
But MK12 also made a short film called
MK12's History of America. Please take thirty minutes out of your day for an animated recap of American History and the famous battle between the Cowboys and the Astronauts on the Vegas strip in a slick little animated film that has just about everything (though I think would have been better without the goofy-kind-of-funny old-man narrator bookends). Bummer about the quality and that Youtube breaks it into four parts, but if you have patience,
you'll see why it's worth your time.
