The first shot's always the slowest.
And the first day's always the roughest. And today will always be the day where we only got half the beach scene I wanted. To be fair, I have enough for a sparse scene, and what we got was not only beautiful but a fucking amazing delivery for a quick beat and a single line. "It was a good idea to come out here." I hope Will is right. I think he is. But, magazine trouble killed a couple of our early shots without time to go back and reshoot them. This is when the mantra that has for three years now carried us through these moments and into the next, the mantra that has safely prevented us from lingering or dwelling or letting it get to us when something goes less than perfect, comes up: It is what it is. That's not going to change; move on to the next part.
And so we do, and so we did, and in doing so we managed to leave the beach on time with some amazing work. Then we jetted over to art director Carrie Farrar's house and invaded for some kitchen close-ups and hand-doubling, which almost ran without me, and I think will look equally amazing.
Overall I feel understandably concerned about the overall but really, really positive about the individual parts. I think this is shaping up to the prettiest, kickassest thing we've shot yet. But I can't be very objective. Not only is it my work and I'm too close to it, but I've also got crazy zombie-brained blinders on right now. I'm shocked this post is in any way coherent, in fact.
Before I go: another new album I forgot to mention which I can't get enough of: The Mountain Goats' Heretic Pride. Fucking awesome. That is all.
Good night.
