I am usually wildly opposed to giving unsolicited advice, but since this is up my alley I thought I would do it gently. I apologize if it's unwelcome, and feel free to delete if so. But I want to put in a word to encourage you to retain your sanity in your quest for "Discipline! Productivity! Self-image! Sex appeal!": the numbers aren't really important. If you eat better or exercise more or both, you'll feel better. Period. Don't get hung up on the 224, because that may or may not change and doesn't tell you what's important, which is how your body feels to you, who's living in it.

No, you're right and I agreed even before you said it. I have always been very aware of my horrible diet and lack of exercise. I feel it in my body, and I'm conscious of a family trait: the males only gain weight in their bellies, eventually looking, well, pregnant. But mostly looking unhealthy. I don't like walking around feeling like this, feeling unhealthy. The number was just an easy, identifiable, tangible handle on the whole thing. I hadn't even realized I'd gained more than a little actual weight in the last few years, only that I'd been eating worse and was in worse shape ( ... )

y'know one thing that helps me with exercise, and could perhaps also help you? having some kind of setup at home, and then using it while i watch movies. like, i've got rollers for my bicycle (like a bike treadmill) so i set them up and watch stuff while i ride - in fact, i tell myself that i'm only allowed to watch movies at home if i'm exercising at the same time. going to a gym is nice - that can be a good break from the day. but i always felt like, my life's too busy to be taking time out of it to just exercise. if i watch things i wanted to watch anyway, and i just exercise at the same time, i feel all multitasky. sometimes you can find cheap treadmills on craigslist - if you just set one up and walked at a brisk pace whenever you were watching movies or tv, you'd get in good shape in pretty quick without taking any time out of your schedule. besides - assuming you use the thing, a gym is more expensive after 8 or so months - and usually they make you sign up for a year.
