it's only you who can tell me apart

So I lost the Internet for a few hours there (pretty scary) and managed to write three different bad openings to my grant proposal thing. Egad, man, this is not easy to write. I'm toying with the idea of going to grab a bite or just working through the hunger (the slice of cheese pizza from over seven hours ago must be digested by now) and trying to make this work.

Also, I finally sat and (workdodging, of course) watched Jake Kasdan's The TV Set. It's such a nice story, in certain ways, and just didn't congeal for me in others. I think I could look at it in a cautionary way, in terms of general appeal, because I feel like there might be stylistic similarities between it and my writing. Frankly, it lacks a strong arc and instead relies on characters, vignettes, and anxiety to carry you through. Which all sounds fine, but here's the rub: it left me unsatisfied in terms of story. So, there's something. (Also: it kind of played a one-sided story, though I don't blame it considering the subject matter; also also: I still love Duchovny, and this was a pretty great role for him.)

Right, so back to it. Filling textedit documents with thousands of words, trying to sell myself and my project. I bet I'd be more linear and clear if I'd slept more.

Stupid sleep.
