Some of my more recent distractions:

First some humor:

"How a Fish Almost Destroyed my Childhood"

Joel tells me that the I-phone has a TED app. I think he's trying to tempt me. It's the most interested I've been in getting a cell phone. But it still probably isn't enough. Still it would be nice to watch talks like this any time I wanted.

The Danger of Science Denial:

I've read Megan McArcdle since before she started working at The Atlantic. I always have a hard time getting teaser quotes out of some of these because there are so many good and interesting points being made so all I can really say is go and read it and let me know what you think:

"What is the Matter with Fox News"

And as always, I'm still a fan of Skippy Stalin:

RightGirl suggests that Islamic culture "as a whole defends and promotes child fucking." All I'm saying is that not utilizing the full power of the laws that we have on hand to prosecute it to the fullest extent possible is to do exactly the same thing to our own children in our own backyard. We know that individual priests aren't the problem in the Catholic Church and we've known it for over twenty years. Yet we still refuse to do anything about it.

Worse than that, when the pope's personal counsellor equated the current allegations against the Vatican with the “'collective violence' suffered by the Jews," certain elements of the blogosphere were utterly silent about it.

Or maybe that's an apt analogy. The industrialized, Christian West didn't have much to say about the "collective violence suffered by the Jews" when it was happening, either.
