The Granada Sherlock Holmes TV series is streaming on Netflix. See you all in a few weeks.

Someone really should have told me about this sooner. Jeremy Brett--most flamboyant Holmes ever, y/y?

Also, Watson cross-dresses and Holmes helps remove his clothing.

No, really! )

I would say most *accurate* Holmes EVER.

He's bringing to mind whatsisname's portrayal of Voldemort in the HP movies, prancing all over the graveyard and whatnot.

I'm sure that it's just that I've never seen this version before, and it'll take me time to get used to it, but right now it's just very noticeable to me, all the drama queening. :D

I have a massive crush on Watson #2, though.

There are of course unbelievers dissenting voices but it's generally agreed that Brett is the best Holmes ever in canonical terms. The Granada series is certainly the most canonically accurate rendition of the stories. When you read the Conan Doyle stories it doesn't take long to realize that Holmes *is* a bit of a drama queen. :D

I have a huge soft spot for the RDJ and Cumberbatch portrayals as you know but when I think about the embodiment of Holmes I *always* think Brett.

Oh, and just in case you're unaware of this connection:

Not at all. That's Brett in younger days. *g*

Brett decided on a look for Holmes that would emphasise pallor and his basic... angularity in line with Conan Doyle's descriptions.

If you see pictures of the older Brett as himself, so to speak, you'd be less surprised. It was always rather a shock to see him interviewed, a tribute to his acting talent because he was very warm, funny and gregarious.
