Happy Shortest Day of the Year!
I'd give you my thoughts on yaoi the solstice, but really, you'd rather have recs anyway, wouldn't you?
I always mean to write a solstice fic, and I always get caught up with other commitments for this time of year and forget. Unless last-minute inspiration hits (and the calendar miraculously clears for today...) it's not gonna happen.
Fortunately rustydog is always prepared for the event! Her solstice fic for this year is for Primeval, and is a post-S3 tag, so it has spoilers for that season finale.

Her 2007 solstice fic was Torchwood, no spoilers, and is here: 'Mid the Tallest Dark.
The 2008 one was also Torchwood, with end-of-S2 spoilers, and is here: How the Light Gets In. The title comes from a Leonard Cohen quote: "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in." When I was looking up links I found this and laughed. If I'd managed a fic this year, I was going to call it "A Crack in Everything"; now I know where I got the quote from. *g* (I'm assuming it's a song, but I've never heard it.)
And, because I expressed mild disappointment about no TW solstice fic this year, Rusty very kindly wrote a double drabble that is sort of an epilogue for the other two: Be Prepared. No specific S3 spoilers (well, maybe one), but familiarity with S3 events definitely helps.

I've recced this one before, and it's not even a solstice fic, but it's one of my favorites in LoM fandom, and it does deal with the theme of light in the darkness, so I'm mentioning it again: In Which We Burn, by halotolerant. There are no spoilers whatsoever, so even if you haven't finished watching--go read it! ETA: Avoid the comments, though; there are BIG spoilers there. Although they're misleading, so you can't really...oh, never mind. Just read the story. :D
