Tsunami Warning
Today certainly started differently than expected. The sirens went off with the expansion of the Tsunami Warning to the whole Pacific basin. We mustered early and left the lodging area we had been using as it was in the evacuation zone.
After that, it was a waiting game. One of the local TV stations had a camera on part of Hilo Bay on the island of Hawaii. The first wave into Hilo wasn't easily noticed. The subsequent waves of the tsunami were quite noticeable, but no significant damage was noted locally. Waves with periods measured in minutes look very different than the normal waves one is used to.
An interesting day. I'm glad the local impact wasn't worse.
