Is anyone else disgusted by this?

 It's a little bit disconcerting to me that so many merchants are trying so hard to get their fingers on tax rebate checks.  I've heard several different commercials where stores will offer credit above and beyond the check value if you sign the whole thing over to their store.  I understand the point is to stimulate the economy and Bush's intention is basically to give people money to go spend to falsely puff up a flagging economy, but one of the reasons we're in such deep shit is that people owe sooooo much more than they make.  The money should be going to pay off what people already owe, not buy a new couch that will probably cost twice as much as the check.

On the other hand, because I currently don't have debt, I've been fantasizing about spending mine.  Several times over.  But I'll probably just put it into my savings account.  I may need it later.
