So it's been one year since our group of 6 teachers became the first foreigners designated, sent and approved by the foreign experts bureau to do teacher training in Kashgar. wow that's such a volatile area (even I as an 'uninformed American' have heard of it!) I cant imagine what visiting there is like, let alone living there. What an adventure

I'm sure not too many 'outsiders' come there, it was probably a great experience for all

forgot to ask... were you allowed to take photos for the most part? I would imagine some areas were off limits

Y'know, it's funny you should ask. My friend was taking pics of the school grounds when suddenly, military guys jumped out of the brush and treeline and took her camera to delete everything on it. She hadn't even known they were there. She was equal parts heartbroken (that was our 3rd day in and over 150 shots lost) and terrified.

It was definitely an experience to remember.
