Foreign Expat Gala + icon!

Jan 21, 2010 10:33

Last night was the 2010 FE Gala! I have been fortunate enough to have been invited for the last 3 years and every year it just gets better and better.

From performances by the Shanghai Symphony (dad, I may be buying us tickets to a performance, no one else will go with me), to the China National Dance Troupe, the acrobats and their amazing China Knot display (acrobatics in mid-air using interchangeable metal cages to form a symbolic Chinese knot), to Wen Wei's violin performance (must buy her CD, must, MUST), tenor Mo Hualin, Australian soprano Antoinette, and singer Zhang Liping. I am really starting to enjoy Chinese folk music. I can't stand Hong Kong pop or Chinese pop (too sappy and 90's style love song-y) but the folk music is just wonderful.

There was even a performance by the Shanghai Peking Opera troupe - the costumes were fantastic, and the muscle control they need to move that quickly across the stage but with such fluidity is astounding. Not to mention the amazing and high-speed flips shown at the end. I would like to attend more of these performances.  Seeing 'Fame' with Lucy two weeks ago was the first musical I'd seen in years, and the only other shows I've seen have been this gala each year. I need to get out more. :D

IN other news, masi_tfoot   is a goddess. Look at this gorgeous icon she made me using the photo I posted yesterday.

She is scary-talented. I love it, She-girl. :D It's just beautiful. ^^ You even whitened her face, just like it used to look like in real life. *sigh* It sucks I have to wait at least 9 months before I can start using it regularly. ^^ I may have to buy bunny ears to stick on her so I can get an Easter icon too. ^^ Yes, my life revolves around my animals. I'm pathetic, I know. I don't care. :D

I am slowly becoming addicted to Starbucks and their Green Tea latte's. This is not a thing of the good.
