So last night, my outlet in the bedroom blew up. I woke up to the scent of burning and saw the outlet casing itself was completely black - charcoaled to a crisp. Needless to say, I am having difficulties getting thingsback up and running. At the same time, the wire connecting the modem to the PC...came apart. That's the best way I can describe it. The twisty thing that screws onto the modem? Well, the wire connecting to the twisty bit (yes, I know, I'm so technical) came apart, exposing wires and the internet is not working.
This is adding on to the existing problem with my phone line - it used to be I just couldn't accept calls from overseas. Then it was long distance calls in general (i.e, from Beijing). Now people within Shanghai have a 50/50 chance of getting through to me.
So, I'm at the office right now. ^^ F called my landlord once I'd explained in detail the problems, and he's going to come over 'either today or tomorrow' to 'look at it'. See, I'm of the mind that says, 'Burnt and exposed wires? Call the pros!' but that's not the way things are done here. Professionals cost money, and the landlord does not want to spend any. So, he's coming. To look. >.<;;
I'll fix him. When he gets to my place, not only is he going to fix everything up, but he's going to have to climb that rickety stepladder thing on my behalf to change those freaky-looking snake-like light bulbs in the main hallway. Theu burnt out a month ago and I don't know how to replace them, or where I need to go to buy tube bulbs. The stores around here only sell normal lightbulbs.
I love my apartment. I do. I just wish these things didn't always happen at the same time. ^^
In other news, I was given a formal invitation to attend a play (or something) at the Grand Theater tonight. Formal events, urgh. But it should be interesting. i hope. At the very least, it's free entertainment.
Winter camp starts Monday. *sigh*
So to summarize - it may take a while to get my internet back up and running, so please bear with me if I don't respond right away. Until it's fixed, I am foreseeing a great many trips to the office for free net usage. >.<;;;
