Got mugged on my way home from work today.
Well, actually, I was on my way to Anne's. A pair of guys on a motorcycle (with the license plate missing) tried to knock me over and steal my purse...except I had actually changed into sneakers, because the trek up to Anne's is always too much to handle in heels.
Anywho, The way they smacked me on the shoulder I thought it was one of my students trying to sneak up on me, but then I felt my purse being pulled. I grabbed my bag before they could get it off my shoulder and screamed once I realized what was REALLY happening. They let go and took off up the street.
No one heard me scream, and I just stood there for a few moments trying to figure out if that had REALLY just happened?? Once I got over that, I ran to the koban up the street and reported it.
MAN the Japanese police are thorough @_@. They asked me about 1000 questions, searched the streets and had as many as 7 officers coming in and out of the koban to get the description of the guys (The Koban was empty when I walked in because it was after hours. I had to phone the main office and wait for someone to show up...and warned them ahead of time that I was gaijin) they even walked me back to the corner where it happened and took pictures of a re-enactment...okay, that part had me in giggles.
Anne came to keep me company (Thank G_D, cause it was intimidating and my Japanese was definitely not cooperating) and we spent about 2 1/2 hours at the koban while they filed the report. Apparently it's going to be in the paper?? I with held my name, but they got my company information, so I had to report it to my manger (Gee, I bet she was happy >_>)
So, in the end?
Gaijin: 1, Purse Snatchers: 0!
Off to Tokyo in the morning-back in 2 days!
