So I was over the moon before work, but then I got majorly, majorly pissed off at work.
So firstly, I managed to snag three standing tickets to see Avril Lavigne on October 7 in Glasgow. Yay! Last year, I had a real hassle trying to get a ticket to see her, so when Helen told me at 2:30pm yesterday that tickets had gone on sale at 9am yesterday morning, I thought that they'd be sold out. But they weren't.
On to the bad news: it's my dinner/dance on Thursday and my work, well, they expect me to work, haha! Who the fuck are they kidding? Actually, it's probably only the assistant manager, Debbie, who expects me to work. I told the duty manager, Scott, that I wasn't going to bother coming in because the whole thing is BULLSHIT! And why is it bullshit? Because about a month and a half ago, Jennifer and I put our names down in the book where we take all the bookings, which is where you put your name down for the day off. We were the first people to do it, so I assumed I'd get it off. Besides, it's a Thursday, anyway, so I thought we wouldn't be busy at all. I was wrong. So it turns out we're mega busy. Kerry also put her name down in the book, but lo and behold, we both have shifts on Thursday. When I told Scott that it was our dinner/dance and we asked for it off, he told me that Debbie had written up the rotar for that week. Fair enough. I told him that we'd requested the day off, and I even showed him the book, but when I got to the "June 10" page, it looked like this:
Stuart off please! Jennifer off please! Kerry off please!
Someone, although I have a sneaking suspicion that someone might be Ryan or Stuart, scored our names out. Now, as I was on holiday for two weeks, I didn't notice. How could I possible notice? Stuart and Jennifer got the night off because they were in last Thursday when the rotar was written up, and I would've phoned up to tell Debbie I had a pre-arranged event, but I expected it to be in the book. I was really livid, and I told Scott, the manager, it was bullshit. Probably the first time I've ever took a stand in there. I'm tired of getting "the shitty end of an abominably shitty stick," as Stephen once said. He just said not to worry about it and I'd get the night off. He was going on about swapping shifts with Buff, etc. But I'm not working an extra shift, and I am not working on Thursday night. Why should I have to do that when I had the sense to ask for it off way before other people?
Debbie is the supervisor on Thursday night. But, you know, I'm not even going to phone her and tell I'm not coming in. I won't pretend I'm sick, or something of that persuasion, because I shouldn't have to. I'm just going to not turn up, and I hope Kerry does the same. Give her the shitty end of the stick for a change.
So, I'm going to kick up a fuss about this and complain to the hotel manager, even though Ste doesn't think I should waste my time, because I think it is absolute BULLSHIT, as I've said lots of times before. I hope Kerry is as suitably outraged as I am.
Livid ...
