I must admit...Christmas is the most amazing holiday in the calendar year. What other holiday does a majority of the world spend well over two months preparing for?
One day, that's all it really is, and people start preparing for it around Halloween. Buying gifts, decorating the house, baking an assortment of foods to give as gifts, figuring out who's house is big enough to hold the entire family and planning it all. So all that is done, now the smart ones usually have a week or two left before Christmas to relax, but you always see people on the last nite trying to finish everything I just mentioned. Here comes the amazing part...in the blink of an eye, after all the gifts are opened, all the meals are eaten, all the good-byes are said, it's over. Just like that, one day, come and gone. Now we're here on the day after, exchanging gifts for ones that fit, cleaning up the messes, getting ready for the new year(or next Christmas, I've met a couple people who do that), and just unwinding from everything we've put ourselves through.
I've noticed something else, it seems that the holidays are funner and better experienced when you have a special someone. This year, it was difficult for me to get into the spirit, yet when I did have someone, it seemed easier and more enjoyable. I did learn something this year, I didn't need that special someone to spend Christmas with. A good friend reminded me of that when I was invited to her grandfather's house for breakfast, even though I wasn't there to help set up the tree and not directly part of the family. They still made me feel like it though, and that made my Christmas that much more enjoyable!
In closing, amidst all the commercialism of the holiday season, when all is said and done, you remember what it's all about. Love, caring, sharing, and the joy of being together on a very special day.
