So far, planning my wedding has been kind of a pain. I fell in love with a dress online (see last post) that no one in driving distance seems to have for me to try on...but they can order it for me. I'm not buying a dress I can't try on first, especially when it can't be returned. So, I'm probably just going to have to go with something similar. Also, the chapel that I thought we definitely would be getting married at wasn't as impressive in person as I thought it would be. It's not totally out of the running, but I don't like its chances. Then, a few weeks ago, James and I drove 45 minutes to look at some place for the reception and, long story short, no one was there to meet us...even though I made an appointment. I was beyond pissed.
Now the new plan is to find someplace where we can have both the wedding and the reception. We went with my parents to check out the Arts Center on the Hudson last night.
http://www.artscenteronthehudson.com/ It used to be a church and was about to be condemned when this guy bought it and totally renovated it into a really nice space. I wasn't too big on checking this place out, but James was We really liked it. The woman that runs the place, Fonda, was very nice and seemed very eager to help us with anything we need. The weird thing is she lives and works as a teacher in Austin, TX. How the heck she got involved with a church-turned-arts center in the "blink and you'll miss it" city of Mechanicville, NY is beyond me.
The only issue with this place is that they don't really offer much other than the venue, so we'll have to probably rent tables and place settings and all that good stuff. But, we also get to use whatever caterer we want, so that's a bonus. There's not many places that I've found that let you use whatever caterer you want.
We still have another place that we (or at least I) want to go see this weekend. I told James that he has to keep an open mind when we go there because he's already completely sold on the Arts Center. We'll see what happens.
