People's first impressions are without a doubt influenced by the way one dresses. So depending on the day, a stranger might see me as a bitchy fashionista or a nerdy, too-smart-for-her-own-good overachiever. It depends how I was feeling that morning and if I actually wanted to make an effort. More and more often, however, I don't feel like making an effort and "looking cute." This is such a change from just a couple months ago when people in all of my clothes always remarked on how stylish I dressed. So what's changed?
I think it's a dissatisfaction with the clothes that I can afford. They're all crappy quality. I absolutely cannot stand cheap fabrics or poorly stitched seams anymore. The only clothes I'm actually interested in are the ones that are at least four times my allowance. Also, as going green becomes more mainstream, I feel guilty if I buy clothes imported from Chile and made in sweat shops. How hypocritical would I be if I endorsed inhumane business practices while touting the evils of plastic water bottles? My two worlds are colliding: fashion and environmentally friendly. Which one will win?
