Sort of OT, but in terms of the cooking community -- OH MY GOODNESS have people there gotten elitist, snippy, divisive, and pompous lately. Not everyone (I'm sure it's just a vocal few, in fact), but enough to make posting there a real pain sometimes :\

I've never looked at that comm, but I hate it when comms end up like that. :(

It used to not be like that, and I hope it's a passing thing. Seen it in several discussions, though. Food_porn got like that for awhile, but seems to be better now (to me)! I hate it too! It's like people decide it's their internet-job to correct others or critique them in snotty ways.

It makes for fun drama though.

More feta/other kind of cheese, mushrooms, or avocado. Bacon works, too.

Maybe red pepper chunks? That would add to the color and add a nice crunch/flavor. I like tomatoes though.

I never liked the taste of tomatoes either til I ate homegrown heirlooms.

I don't know if the OP is as neurotic as me, but for me its not just the taste, its the smell, look, and texture for a big ol' no thank you from me. I think if I could get past that that taste isn't that big of a deal.

Yep! The taste is the least offensive part, which is why they are okay if they are among a lot of other things. The icky part for me is the firm sections with squishy seedy insides; especially grape tomatoes because they are small enough to explode in your mouth when you bite them.
I could probably tolerate them if I spent the time scraping all the insides out and just using the outside but that would be a waste of tomatoes and the flavor is still something I'd rather do without so it doesn't seem worth it.

I am exactly the same way. To the letter.

What fruits can be used with feta? That might be something to consider. Or roasted red peppers or marinated mushroms.

Bacon and/or shallots.

I also h-a-t-e tomatoes, so I usually just omit them or maybe sub avocados. I don't know what it is, its the only food I cannot even dream of choking down and it took me forever to be able to even touch or cut them without gagging.

It's because they all seem like a 'gone bad' version of what a tomato should be! They're all squishy and slimy inside like something rotten.

That's an excellent point, especially with how pungent they smell. There are other foods I don't care for, but none cause a visceral reaction like tomatoes. I involuntarily dry heaved looking at a picture in a fricking cookbook once.

This. And they get their disgusting tomato snot all over everything they come in contact with, contaminating the entire dish and making it inedible!
