Sorry I'm being spammy, but all the meta flying around lately has me dreaming up an idea for a community.
I think it would be named something like representation_celebration, and well, let me see if I can explain this. It would be like a 30 day blogathon thing, where people would sign up and pledge to spend 30 days celebrating underrepresented populations in their journal, through whatever means they felt most comfortable (picspamming, art, writing, meta, squee, recs, sharing plot bunnies, pretty much anything would go).
For people who already do that every day, well, maybe the challenge could be to represent a different population/s? Like maybe I'm a person who represents women a lot in in my journal but I've noticed recently I don't give the canonically queer characters or biracial characters a lot of love; this could be a little extra motivation to change that. (The biracial characters thing is actually true for me, particular when it comes to happa folks. I actually started keeping a list of happa actors for precisely this reason, wheee. There are a lot more of us out there than I realized.)
And then there could be round-up posts at the comm where you could share what you've been doing and a big index at the end of everything. (INDICES. ♥)
There already seem to be a lot of festathons going on right now so I wouldn't want to do this for another month or two, but hmmm, could be fun?
Here, have a poll:
