Dear Yuletide Writer:

First off, wheee, you offered to write one of my fandoms! ♥♥♥ Awesome. Honestly, there's so little fic in existence for these fandoms that anything you write will make me happy.

Second, this got kind of long, and I'd like to really, really encourage you to ignore it if it's not helpful. I can be a little too easy to stalk in that I have all sorts of opinions about these fandoms up at my LJ and I really don't want you to think you have to write a story that reflects my opinions about these sources. As long as you don't write my squicks, I promise, I will be very happy! Just write whatever feels good to you because I think that's the most important things.

So, about what kind of writing I like. Hmmm. Well, I'm pretty equally fond of humor, romance, angst, character studies, fluff, crack and really more genres than I can name. (I'll try reading almost anything at least once.) I like smutty better than explicit porn-type sex scenes, if that makes any sense.

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of sad endings or character death, exactly, but I can love them, too, in the way that you love things that are good for you even if they hurt. *g* I'm way more into character than I am plot. Things where my attention starts to wander include: long fight/battle sequences, geography (I have a really hard time reading about geography, it's a thing), and extremely detailed sex scenes that go on for pages and pages. That's what I meant by porn vs. smut, I think.

I have extreme weaknesses for lyrical prose, vignettes, character studies, non-linear stories (especially if they change tenses in text, like in a dream sequence, omgtenseporn!), totally cracky humor, epistolary fic (letters, e-mails, texts, twitter, all of it) or fic that's mostly composed of dialogue, snarky banter (especially during or right before sex), wacky crossovers, characters in therapy, big warm and fuzzy ensemble scenes where the characters are sharing a meal and joking and laughing and just generally having a good time (think Thanksgiving type scenes), and sometimes, I really love second person. My biggest surefire kinks are hand-holding (intertwining fingers of LOVE), doppelgangers, and one character watching another eat fruit in a sexy way.

The main things I'm averse to are any kind of excretory kinks, noncon and excessive gory violence.

If you're the kind who likes to research, I have some recs posted here, although frustratingly half those posts link to a delicious reccing account I deleted awhile ago. Two of my favorite writers of all time are tinheart and theswearingkind and their stuff might provide some insight? And some of the pro-authors I like include Ursula K. LeGuin, Margaret Atwood, Jennifer Crusie (sometimes the romance is too much for me, but I love her sense of humor), and I've recently been having a Terry Pratchett renaissance.

And I know that I always go and read some of the fic my recipient has written because I generally assume that people write what they like to read (not always true, but I figure better safe than sorry), and I can say that in my case it can be a good barometer. Some of my older fic not so much but most of my more recent fic is pretty reflective of things I enjoy.

Northern Exposure: So I'm guessing if you're not a Joel/Marilyn 'shipper right about now you're hating me, but really, if pairing them isn't your thing it's okay. I love their relationship, whether it's platonic or romantic -- they're the pairing of my heart because of their dynamic.

If you're the type who likes plot bunnies, here, have a few!: I loved when Joel went after Marilyn when she was on her trip because he was all worried about her; anything that explored these two and how him being in Manonash changes their relationship; Joel pining after Marilyn like a helpless pine-y thing; the fact that Marilyn was one of the people who just sensed he was gone; slice-of-life with their odd couple dynamic, Joel wacky and neurotic and Marilyn solid and competent and generally her awesome, awesome self.

Web Shifters: I should note that while I usually love things that emulate the canon down to the minutiae, for this one in particular Czerneda's writing style isn't what makes me like her books; it's mainly the characters. (And the aliens. The aliens are so awesome! And I must admit that many of Esen's line crack me the hell up.) So no pressure to emulate her style, unless it works for you.

The Chronicle (2001): This show just cracks me up, so I'd prefer something light/wacky/etc. here if that's possible. I really love all the characters so just about anything would work for me. I guess I wouldn't be that into Pigboy slash? (Although I might if it's done right, hmm!)

Also: The Chronicle crossed over with any other fandoms I know = GOLD.

Noah's Arc: I would just like to say, eeek, please don't be scared if I came across sounding all poly-rabid in my request. I wasn't trying to! The One True Love That Cures Emotionally Crippling Sluttiness is just a trope I've noticed a lot over the years and this example was like the last straw. Really, anything featuring Ricky would be great, whether you address any of those themes I requested or not. I'd be equally happily to read about him going about his daily life and his friendships with the rest of the guys or some angsty character introspection, so don't feel locked into going in a certain direction. And I love him and Noah, whether it's romantic or their platonic BFFness, and if you went in a 'shippy direction and wanted to to make it Noah/Ricky/Wade I would not complain at all (the Ricky/Wade kiss in the movie = delish).

In summation, thank you for doing this! I'm really not as hard to please as I probably sound! You're awesome!

:)
