Rachel knew Lucas loved her. He wasn't the type of man who would be able to lie about that, lie about anything really. He preferred to not answer the questions she asked about his new job, fidgeting as he stood, eyes lowered. Only his outburst after his near-death experience in her hospital showed the importance of his work. Dying was the nightmare of humanity, but he was willing to face that for... whatever he was doing.
Despite his 'second marriage', she also sensed something was off when he talked about Nigel. He never mentioned a last name, or what the man's job was; but he talked about Nigel's personality with a growing fondness.
Sometimes, she just had to wonder how much of her husband's heart belonged to her. She already knew who possessed his time and energy.

...how much of her husband's heart belonged to her. Oooooh. *big shiny eyes* That built really nicely. (And used the word very nicely, too!)

I'm glad you're enjoying them! I wasn't sure they'd tickle anyone's muses (mine hasn't cooperated with this week's word yet), so it's awesome to see you inspired :D
Oh, thank you so much. I think I am far more interested in the pained sides of Ennis than in the happy ones, though it's difficult to say why? I think he hides his pain so well and doesn't hardly explore it himself, so it develops many facets in that darkness.
