D.Gray-man is set towards the end of the nineteenth century, but as I understand it, it is not the same nineteenth century that most of the people here remember. Japan is completely taken over by the Earl of Millenium, his siblings, and their servants the Akuma (which are created by dragging the souls of the dead back into the living bodies of their loved ones).
The Black Order of Exorcists stands against them, with chapters all over the world in hidden places. I supervise the England branch and have control over several Exorcists, as well as hundreds of subordinate Finders and civilian office workers. I was originally a scientist, however, and have a deep love for all things robotic.
My sister Rinali is an Exorcist. I am not, so to compensate, I do paperwork. ^_^;;
Each Exorcist has their own unique weapon, given power by a substance named Innocence. Another of the Order's tasks, superceding even Akuma-destroying, is searching out the Innocence pieces scattered across the globe and protecting them at Headquarters until they can all be assembled.
At that point, the world may end. No one's quite sure what will happen, but we would rather have it on our terms than on the Earl's.
