01 eragon coloring

Hey there, and welcome back to my new graphic enterprise!
Since I love spending my spare time hanging out with Photoshop's colors and stuff like that (and since I love editing photos too) I decided to begin this new adventure, hoping that someone will find this helpful. I will post here some coloring tutorials, and of course I will post for each tutorial a .psd file which can be downloaded 24h/24 from my mediafire account.
All I'm asking for, please, are credits (a linkback to my journal in your resource list will make my day!) and of course comments.I really love comments, and I read all of them, even if I can't answer to you all. Anyway, the main rule will be: no one of these tutorials will ever end up with a good result with all of the images in the world! The point is that you can try to apply some of these psd files to an image that is completely different from the image I've used, but it may happen that the coloring doesn't match with those different colors.
All right then. Let's create something colorful and let's begin with the tutoooriaaal :D

Today we will see how to create really strange colours, editing them from a medium light picture. I used this screenshot from cartelesmix.com.

So the tutorial will show you how to transform the screenshot from this:

to this:

1. Let's open our base in Photoshop (File > Open)

2. We'll begin with a gradient level, since we need to spread basic yellows and brownish colours. I warn you, this tutorial will be very long!
Anyway: Levels > New fill layer > Gradient
this is a stamp of mine to see how exactly you have to set your options (it's in italian, but still pretty understable)
Set this level to Multiply > 72% (opacity)

3. Now let's think about that yellow gradient next to Eragon's head. This step is optional, so you can ignore what I'm saying, and jump to the step #4. This soft yellow gradient will get harder in the next steps.
Levels > New fill layer > Gradient
this is a stamp of mine to see how exactly you have to set your options (it's in italian, but still pretty understable)
Set to Overlay > 54% (opacity)

4. Now we have to darken our picture, since we're gonna play with a lot of colours and we don't want it to turn in a bad quality. So duplicate your base, grab it to the top and set it to Soft light > 36%

5. Selective coloring, then! If you're working on this picture too, you surely have noticed that we have too much greens, so we'll try to bring back pink colours and exasperate them a little. And we'll lighten the picture up too.
    red: -83 | -29 | -39 | +14
    yellow: -26 | -45 | +100 | +55
    green: +100 | +100 | +100 | +6
    neutrals: -20 | -7 | -21 | +2

6. Now it looks like the picture has too much pink. We'll bring some green and cyan back BUT still having the pink :D
So let's take our Color Balance and set something like this:
    midtones: +35 | +19 | +9
    shadows: +5 | 0 | 0
    lights: -55 | -13 | -11

7. Looks like the picture is still too dark. Let's lighten it up a little, then!
Layers > New adjustment layer > Exposure and set:
    0,00 | 0,0000 | 1,21

8. There's still too much green, don't you think? The picture seems to be lifeless, colours are too flat. What about bring some colours blacks? And I'm sure that all those green colours aren't so cool. Selective coloring, guys!
    red: -38 | 0 | -6 | +29
    yellow: -100 | -6 | +8 | +27
    green: +100 | +100 | +100 | 0
    neutrals: +9 | -9 | -17 | 0
    black: 0 | 0 | 0 | +31

9. I'm starting to feel bored for those who dediced to follow this tutorial \o/ There are just three steps until we're done, I promise, and one of them is also optional. In this step we're going to add a white gradient which will attenuate the next two steps.
Levels > New fill layer > Gradient
this is a stamp of mine to see how exactly you have to set your options (it's in italian, but still pretty understable)
WARNING: customize the fill in your palette levels to 45% (here is the stamp which show you where to edit)

10. Let's darken again the picture, just a little bit. Take the Levels and set:
      28 | 1,17 | 232
      0 | 246
Set the opacity to 37% in your palette levels.

11. This last step it's optional and you can ignore it.
To give that pretty lightning create a new fill layer with #4a5575 (it's an almost violet) and set it to Difference with 27% (opacity)

That's all folks!
Here is the .psd file, I'm pretty sure a lot of people will only download this instead of following the tutorial XD I'd do the same, eheh! Anyway, play with the psd, and feel free to customize the levels, adding or deleting stuff.
Feedbacks really make my dayyy <3
