lost coloring / tutorial + psd

Hey there, and welcome back to my new graphic enterprise!
Since I love spending my spare time hanging out with Photoshop's colors and stuff like that (and since I love editing photos too) I decided to begin this new adventure, hoping that someone will find this helpful. I will post here some coloring tutorials, and of course I will post for each tutorial a .psd file which can be downloaded 24h/24 from my mediafire account.
All I'm asking for, please, are credits (a linkback to my journal in your resource list will make my day!) and of course comments. I really love comments, and I read all of them, even if I can't answer to you all. Anyway, the main rule will be: no one of these tutorials will ever end up with a good result with all of the images in the world! The point is that you can try to apply some of these psd files to an image that is completely different from the image I've used, but it may happen that the coloring doesn't match with those different colors.
All right then. Let's create something colorful and let's begin with the tutoooriaaal :D

Today we will see how to play around with some dark colours, spreading them from a medium light picture.
I used this screenshot from gallery.lost-media.com.

So the tutorial will show you how to transform the screenshot from this:

to this:

1. Let's open our base in Photoshop (File > Open)

2. This step may appear a little bit useless to you, but trust me: it's really important. The picture really need to be darkened, because dark colours will be the main game in this coloring. So let's duplicate our base and set it to Soft light.
The picture may appear too dark, now, but we're going to lighten it up :)

3. The next step will exasperate skin colours, turning them into a middle orange/red/yellow tone. And it will lighten the picture up too. So let's take the Levels and set something like this:
    16 | 2,27 | 255

4. With our Selective colours we'll bring some pink back. We don't want Sawyer to look like an orange loser!
    red: +38 | +27 | -38 | +13
    yellow: -41 | -23 | -36 | +51
    green: -100 | +100 | -12 | 0
    cyan: +3 | +2 | -100 | +100
    magenta: +1 | +100 | -100 | +100
    white: +100 | -1 | +100 | -8
    neutral: -14 | -7 | +6 | -7

5. Now Sawyer' skin looks a little too pink, but we needed him to look like that, because now we're going to darken (again) the picture, and without all of that pink, the coloring will be a crap. So let's take our Color Balance and set:
    midtones: +12 | +23 | -37
    shadows: +19 | +1 | +37
    lights: -8 | +13 | +17

6. And then.. the last step! This is optional but really good looking when used. A lot of people appreciate a very very light fade on the pictures, so let's apply our wonderful fading layer on the top.
Layer > New fill layer > Gradient
this is a stamp of mine to see how exactly you have to set your options (it's in italian, but still pretty understable)

You made it! e_e
Here is the .psd file, feel free to check it out if you need to. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, have fun with this coloring, and remember: Sawyer is the way u__u
