Hey there, and welcome back to my new graphic enterprise!
Since I love spending my spare time hanging out with Photoshop's colors and stuff like that (and since I love editing photos too) I decided to begin this new adventure, hoping that someone will find this helpful. I will post here some coloring tutorials, and of course I will post for each tutorial a .psd file which can be downloaded 24h/24 from my megaupload account.
All I'm asking for, please, are credits (a linkback to my journal in your resource list will make my day!) and of course comments.I really love comments, and I read all of them, even if I can't answer to you all. Anyway, the main rule will be: no one of these tutorials will ever end up with a good result with all of the images in the world! The point is that you can try to apply some of these psd files to an image that is completely different from the image I've used, but it may happen that the coloring doesn't match with those different colors.
All right then. Let's create something colorful and let's begin with the tutoooriaaal :D
{ I created a psd map
page! so you won't get lost anymore // look's what's
new, guys :)
[+2 psds this time! happy Valentine's day to you all :)
Today I'm gonna show you two different colorings such as blue, violet and fuchsia mixage. I used
this screenshot from
rawr-caps.net.
So the tutorial will show you how to turn the screenshot from this:
to this:
1. Let's open our base in Photoshop (File > Open)
2. Soooo guys: here we are with this awesome coloring, which is still one of my favourite of all time. This made me really proud, since I discovered an amazing double use. This first coloring will be the main theme, we'll see the second psd later. Now let's think about this screenshot. Emily is the way! Ok, let's begin :D Duplicate your base and set it to Screen, as usual.
3. Let's think about the colors, now: I thought that starting with a cool blue tone could be great. So let's take our Color Balance tool and let's try to create this first color scheme:
midtones: +65 | -48 | +69
shadows: -98 | -35 | -9
highlights: -71 | -55 | -88
This will be the perfect base for the following steps: in the first step we re-lightened the picture, but now we gave to the screenshot a new color mix. All of these blue/violet tones need to be refined now.
4. Let's just try to add some new girlish colors, since we're still not happy with the outcome. Let's take our Selective Coloring tool and let's pay a lot of attention with the tones mixage: we have to add new colors, not just replacing them! I just love those pictures in which there are a lot of cold colors. Blue and fuchsia are one of them. Together, they are flawless.
reds: -100 | -29 | +100 | +34
yellows: -97 | +100 | +16 | +100
whites: +12 | -9 | -100 | -46
neutrals: -21 | 0 | -22 | 0
5. This step is optional: it will only add a grey matt layer to your image, mixing the colors together in a really interesting way. If you can't stand grey, then you can jump to the last step :3 to all of those who love grey, let's take our Gradient tool!
Layer > New fill layer > Gradient (
stamp)
set this layer to Luminosity > 39%
6. The last step, here we go! We're gonna end the coloring with another gradient layer.
Layer > New fill layer > Gradient (
stamp)
set this layer to Screen > 60%
You're done, dude!
You'll be amazed when you'll know that this second coloring is just a simple adjustment of the first coloring. Hell yeah! I won't explain you how to create this second one, since all of the layers are just the same.
The only thing you have to do is:
- delete the Color Balance layer (or reset the opacity)
So you will have two different colorings, with just one different layer. Here it is an example, just so you know how this will look like.
This coloring will transform the screenshot from this:
to this:
If you're not deleting the Color Balance layer, the second coloring will look like this, anyway:
it will be a perfect copy of the previous coloring.
Tha's all folks!
