Hey there, and welcome back to my new graphic enterprise!
Since I love spending my spare time hanging out with Photoshop's colors and stuff like that (and since I love editing photos too) I decided to begin this new adventure, hoping that someone will find this helpful. I will post here some coloring tutorials, and of course I will post for each tutorial a .psd file which can be downloaded 24h/24 from my mediafire account.
All I'm asking for, please, are credits (a linkback to my journal in your resource list will make my day!) and of course comments.I really love
comments, and I read all of them, even if I can't answer to you all. Anyway, the main rule will be: no one of these tutorials will ever end up with a good result with all of the images in the world! The point is that you can try to apply some of these psd files to an image that is completely different from the image I've used, but it may happen that the coloring doesn't match with those different colors.
All right then. Let's create something colorful and let's begin with the tutoooriaaal :D
Today we will see how to spread million of colors from a medium light screenshot. I used
this screenshot from
killcolor's journal.
So the tutorial will show you how to transform the screenshot from this:
to this:
1. Let's open our base in Photoshop (File > Open)
2. Which is a good, basic image? Yeah, you're right, a lightened one! :) So duplicate our base, as usual, and set it to Screen.
3. What we see now is an image which is litghtened yet, but we have a shadowless image too! We're gonna bring them back.
Layers > New adjustment layer > Exposure
0,00 | -0,0646 | 1,00
Set this layer to 76% (opacity)
4. It's time to start spreading some colors. Our base image is very flat! Very important for this screenshot it's the progressive work, since its quality it's not that good, and you will see it at the end of the tutorial. But I'm pretty sure that you have chosen an high quality image as well :) Anyway, let's take our Hue/Saturation tool and set:
0 | +32 | 0
5. Looks pretty better, but we just started! Let's take our Selective Coloring tool. guys :) We're gonna give to the image those pink colors, we'll accentuate the yellows, and all the blue colors.
reds: -100 | +11 | -24 | +46
yellows: -100 | +9 | -38 | -23
cyan: +100 | +100 | +100 | +100
magenta: -100 | -100 | -100 | +100
whites: +60 | -21 | +38 | -22
neutrals: 0 | +7 | +6 | -7
6. Where did all of those greens go? Don't panic, they're still there! They're just covered by this layer, but we didn't remove them. We're going to bring them back now :) Hue/Saturation tool, then. Set something like this:
+6 | +10 | 0
Do you see? We have our greens and some blue colors back, still having all of our pinks. Some of those just turned out to be a little more orange, but we still love this coloring, so we'll leave them alone u_u
7. Wouldn't you add some light blue? The image looks like it's too green/pink! We just have to set our Color Balance like this:
midtones: -74 | -45 | -81
shadows: -34 | -19 | -21
lights: +29 | +23 | +69
8. The last step for you, guys! This is exasperate our colors a little, and it will give much risonance to the image. Take your Selective Coloring and set:
yellows: -100 | +100 | +100 | +2
cyan: +100 | 0 | -100 | +100
whites: 0 | -26 | +35 | +16
neutrals: +20 | 0 | -9 | 0
And you're done! Well, since the image can pixelate a little, like mine, you can simply replace the 2nd factor in the Exposure step, decreasing it, and adding some blacks on the Selective Coloring. The effect will be similar, and it won't let your image pixelate.
That's all folks :D
Here is the
.psd with all the layers, so you can mess around with the coloring. I had fun creating this, so I really hope this will help you, guys. Remember to leave a feedback, it's the only thing I ask you, and of course credits if you use it.
