Have you ever been watching something on television that absolutely took your breath away? That just...overwhelmed you?

Last night, January 3rd, at 10 till 12 CST, through word of mouth from bystanders at ICG command post in Upshur Co, WV, 12 families were informed that 12 miners were found. Many people interpreted this to mean that 12 miners were found alive. Due to the wonderful information source known as word of mouth, people started hearing that the miners were going to be coming to the church to see their families. At 2 a.m. CST, ICG made a formal announcement stating that the earlier announcement was incorrect. That while 12 miners had been found, there was only one survivor, a young 26 year old man.

After listening to ICG formal announcement at 2 a.m., there really was a severe lack of miscommunication. Apparently, someone overheard a phone conversation with one of the rescue workers. That person started calling people. Pretty soon, word had made it back to the church that 12 of the 13 miners were alive. For 2 hours, families and friends were waiting anxiously to see their loved ones walk out of the mine face. 2 hours later, ICG made the announcement that due to cell phone calls of misinterrpreted information, the incorrect information was released to the public. Yes, 12 miners were found, no, they weren't all alive. ICG said that they waited so long to tell everyone what was going on because they wanted to confirm how many were alive and how many weren't. ICG knew 20 minutes after the first announcement that not all of the miners were alive. They didn't want to put the families through too many emotional ups and downs, command post stated. So they waited until they had confirmation.

I can barely imagine what those families went and are still going through. I can barely imagine what those rescue workers are going through.

I can only imagine what that one survivor went through. And I can only imagine how long the others survived. They've stated that it appears the other 11 miners died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

I don't know how to end this post without sounding trite. So I'm going to stop right here.
