WHAT:
As part of a national movement, a group of Kentuckians have come together to seek comprehensive immigration reform. This group, the Kentucky Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform (KCCIR), is working for the establishment of legal paths to permanent residency for immigrants, worker protection and human rights, the promotion of the "Dream Act" which opens the door to higher education for immigrants.

WHEN/WHERE:
We are working to bring together 10,000 people at the new courthouse plaza in Lexington, KY at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10th (10-10-10 S Se Puede! Yes, We Can! ). This will be an authorized, peaceful celebration of the immigrants' presence in this great country of the United States of America. There will be people from all over Kentucky, from all walks of life: workers, families, youth, students, religious and political leaders. We are all coming together to educate ourselves and to honor the patriotic symbols of this magnanimous country.

WHY:

( 10-10-10 S Se Puede! Yes, We Can! ). This is part of a nationwide movement to protest the Sensenbrenner Bill (H.R. 4437) approved by the House of Representatives last December (this bill will make it a crime to be in the U.S. undocumented and will also make it a crime to provide any assistance to undocumented immigrants). Until now, these issues were not part of the criminal justice system. If this bill becomes law, it would immediately turn 12 million undocumented immigrants into criminals. In addition, the religious, educational, healthcare, and social service organizations in our country would be subject to criminal penalties as well .
This Monday, the 10th of April, is a Day of National Action because the next day, the 11th, the Senate will vote for an immigration law. Thanks to the pressure of the people (national protests, etc.) the Senate Judicial Committee already approved the Kennedy-McCain bill which calls for fair and positive immigration reform. Now it's time for the whole Senate to vote and only participation and pressure from all of us will lead to a Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
