hiiiii i kno its late over there but we didnt talk all day and i know ur up right now. please :(
Yoongi's eyes flew open, falling out of his light slumber and groaning at the sight of dawn outside his window. The familiar sound of his alert noise blared next to his ear. Nine-thousand six-hundred and ten kilometers (he knew the number by heart) between Los Angeles and Busan meant it was afternoon in his boyfriend's life. After meeting Jimin, he was used to sleeping with his phone nearby, in case of times like these. Jimin was wrong, though, he was sleeping ー for once.
Yesterday's battle had been emotionally draining, even if he won. Instead of resting, he had to watch the counter, as per usual. His parents didn't understand that if they wanted him to move out so badly, he needed to win competitions. In order to win them, he needed to write lyrics and perform. He wasn't going to win any money if he worked at his father's shop all day for free. Yoongi groaned, desperate for some much needed rest.

yoongi. yoooongiiii answer me. i know youre sleeping but i miss you :(((
He was also desperate to talk to his boyfriend. The one he hasn't talked to in two days.
Damn it.
He unlocked his phone, pausing briefly to look at the last selca Jimin had sent him. It looked cold in Korea, he was wearing a sweater and mittens unlike his usual clothes. Jimin shows off his muscles every chance he can, it must be very chilly if he's actually wearing sleeves.

Hey sorry. I had to work and my dad took away my phone for coming home late, even if i told them i had a competition. ugh.

I missed u. How are you?
Yoongi smiled to himself, waiting for the next message. Jimin is a goddamn ray of sunshine. And just like the sun, he was too far away.
That was too cheesy. Yoongi's smile turned into a frown.

im great! studying mostly. too much, i havent done anything other than study for the past days. i want to dance ㅠㅠ did u get the video i send you of my last choreo?
Yoongi wondered if it was appropriate to tell his boyfriend that he masturbated three times to a video of him dancing.

I won the competition, by the way. Namjoon didn't compete this time, his mom threw away his recording stuff. Kinda bummed out about that. If my dad hears about it he would probably do the same

If it makes u feel any better u know ill always be your biggest fan :)
Yoongi had no doubt about that. He still remembers the time that he showed Jimin one of the first tracks he ever worked on. That was the day he took Jimin's hip-hop virginity, as he liked to call it. Since Yoongi was the first rapper that Jimin ever heard, Jimin was convinced Yoongi was the best rapper Los Angeles.
Yoongi scoffed. It wasn't easy being a rapper in America, even if hip hop is more popular there. He barely got any respect, even if he beat the best in his district. He shivered at the thought of the hell he would go through if anyone found out he was gay.

Fuck it, i would kiss you in the middle of a stree busan if i had to. i dont care. i just want to know how you feel
He tried his best to be romantic, really. It wasn't his fault he hadn't cared for romance before he met Jimin. Even now, the thought of expressing love is alien to him, Jimin is far better at this than him.

Snow started to fall into the streets of Busan, but the clock on Jimin's phone said it was chilly in Los Angeles, which was much more important to him than the mushy, muddy ice falling out his window. It didn't snow in L.A, according to Yoongi, it only rained in the winter. Maybe their first kiss could be under the rain, Jimin wasn't sure, but it had to be special. He glanced at the half empty piggy bank in his desk, along with the other two full ones. It still wasn't enough, Jimin doubted that he could see Yoongi this year at this rate.

Jimin wanted to throw his phone against the wall. No, better not. His father couldn't afford fixing a dent in the wall. Neither could he.
He thought of Yoongi's promises. Jimin groaned.

The times between four and eight on the afternoon were his most precious moments of the day for Yoongi. Usually, at this time, he was out of his father's shop and free from his reptilian clutches. This was also the time where he could speak to Jimin without a worry.
Jimin was already in his first period. After knowing each other for so long, he'd gotten pretty good at hiding the fact that he was texting during class. He heard his phone buzz next to him, Jimin had sent him an emoticon of a rabbit and a bear hugging.

He supposed he felt bad for distracting Jimin from school. No matter how much he hated the education system, Jimin worked harder for his grades than he ever did. Dropping out was a mistake, he didn't want Jimin to follow in his footsteps.
Yoongi took another drag from his cigarette, tapping his pen against his notebook. He had not told Jimin about this new habit, he didn't want him to worry.
There was something about love songs that made Yoongi want to bang his head against the wall. Namjoon had recommended he included something romantic in his new mixtape ー people loved that sort of shit. He thought about all the things Jimin would tell him, all the things he wanted to tell Jimin, which was easy, writing it down in paper was the difficult part, especially when he needed to write this song in english. His producer didn't mind his korean songs, but if he wanted to make it big in the L.A underground, he needed to blend in.
It was proving difficult to make the lyrics gender neutral. Maybe he should just write it for a girl. Yoongi grimaced, changing a lyric to talk about short skirts and long hair. Generic feminine stuff straight guys liked, at least what he knew from movies. As he read over the lyrics, it was made pretty clear that he wasn't cut out to be writing about women.

Yoongi was the luckiest man on earth. To be honest, his father didn't care if he brought another man home, he would just prefer that Yoongi slept with another man in his own home. Despite what his father thought, Yoongi didn't want to stay in that house either. Though, the thought of Jimin in his home made it seem tolerable, maybe even enjoyable. He wondered what it would be like to have a dad who actually gave a shit.

Jimin felt the beat of the song become one with his body. He couldn't really explain what it felt like, only that it was the most liberating feeling in the world. He forgot about the fact that he started finals next week. He forgot about his the cuts on his knees and on his chubby cheeks, and focused on the image of a young boy in front of him, eager to win. The young boy looking at him had bruises on his knees, the kind that Jimin could stare at for hours. The meant he was dedicated.
Hoseok would point out mistakes after every song. Jimin gritted his teeth. He knew he wasn't perfect, that Hoseok was far better than him. He but the side of his cheek, following Hoseok's tips step by step.
"I don't know if I can do this, Hobi." Jimin said between gulps of water. "They're professionals, right? I'm out out high school next month..." He threw the bottle to the ground, still thirsty.
Hoseok kept his smile on, as he always did, and patted him on the back. "Yoongi wouldn't want you to quit, bro."
Jimin was exhausted. The competitions were tomorrow and he still couldn't get one of his moves right. Hoseok assured him that it wasn't important, it was freestyle competition after all ー Jimin only huffed in response, biting his bottom lip until he tasted copper.
His phone's screen turned on, showing messages that he must have missed while he was practicing. He texted his father telling him that he'll be home soon until another text came, one from his kakao talk. Jimin's breath hitched.

Be sure to take pictures and tell hoseok to take a video or something. I know youll win, but if you dont, i still like you ㅋㅋㅋ
He wasn’t going to let himself lose. At this very moment, there was nothing in the world that mattered to him more than the distance between him and Yoongi, and how he was going to get rid of them.
“Hoseok,” Jimin said, gritting his teeth again. “Come on, we only have another hour until I have to leave. Give me another song.”
He only ever called Hoseok by his actual name when he wanted to prove a point. The other dancer felt goosebumps on his skin and started to actually believe that Jimin might have a chance at winning this.

The medal around his neck clinked and banged with every step he took along the terminal. The eleven hours on the plane had felt like enough, the other two where he had to wait for the plane to finally decide to take off was just simple torture. He checked his phone again and groaned. He couldn’t talk to Yoongi without wi-fi, but it was way past the meeting time they had agreed on. Jimin would have to take a cab to Yoongi’s house. He practiced the adress aloud, feeling the need to brush up his english. Apart from spending time with Yoongi, he hoped that the trip fixed his terrible scores in his english class next semester.
Jimin stopped in his tracks, looking up at the sign that said, from what he understood, that he was just a mere few feet away from where the other passengers could reach the people waiting for them. Just next to him there were two women who hugged each other, a soldier running to what must be her daughter, and a couple just back from their honeymoon. He felt his chest ache with a nervous pain. Jimin didn’t know what to expect.
Amongst the crowd there was a familiar sight of the black hair and chubby cheeks. Jimin could recognize him from any angle, amongst any number of people. His presence was unmistakable. Jimin couldn’t move. He wanted to run to him. He wanted to run away back to Busan. He wanted to let the world know that this was the man he won for, that he almost fainted for. No matter what he wanted to do, his legs felt frozen. He couldn’t move.
“Yoongi.” He whispered, testing the fact that someone in front of him could actually react to the name. “Yoongi.”
This time, the other man looked up and locked eyes with him, seemingly feeling the same way that he was, until his eyes turned into crescent moons, the same ones that Jimin had seen so many times through a screen. Jimin couldn’t quite describe what had happened next, but before he knew it, he was pressing his lips to the side of Yoongi’s lips, not caring about the bag he had just thrown on the floor. Yoongi smelled of cheeseburgers and cigarette smoke (they will have to talk about that last one); Jimin wouldn’t exchange it for anything in the world.
He didn’t know how long they held each other, but Yoongi was the first one to break the silence. “Shit, our first kiss wasn’t in the middle of the street or in the rain...” He mumbled into Jimin’s jacket. Yoongi tried his best to keep himself cool but failed miserably as he giggled at the sight of Jimin’s face so close to his. “Sick medal.”
“Thanks, it got me here.” Jimin said, hiding his eyes behind his smile. He doesn’t know what else to say. They’ve talked to each other so many times and yet it felt like they were total strangers.
“You’re cuter in person.” Jimin blurts out. Like any Daegu-man, Yoongi flushed and laughed at praise. “Ah, l-let me take your bags.” He said awkwardly, taking Jimin’s things and guiding him to the luggage pickup.
Yoongi tried to keep his cool demeanor the entire time, but he just couldn’t let go of Jimin’s hand. It was strange for both of them. Yoongi wasn’t used to showing affection, much less making an effort to do so whilst trying to ignore the fact that both of their hands were sweaty. Jimin, on the other hand, was in awe that he could do this in public and no one would bat an eyelash at them. He liked Los Angeles already.
“Y’know, when we get home, I’m going to sleep. We can cuddle but I don’t think I'm up for anything like I thought I was.” Jimin yawned.
“I swear I won’t try to do it with you.” The other man said with a laugh. “We got an entire month!”
----
“Now that is something I want to do in the rain or in the middle of the street.” Yoongi said between pants. Jimin rolled his eyes, cleaning up his chest with Yoongi’s bedsheets. So much for sleeping once they got home. He was grateful that Yoongi lived in his parent’s basement, it meant no one could have heard his particularly vocal expressions.
Jimin rolled on to his side and wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s pale waist. Even if they had just been as close as it was humanly possible, Jimin was still in awe about the fact that he could actually touch Yoongi. He was warmer than what he expected. Jimin liked to think that hugging Yoongi was like hugging a very lovable toothpick.
He felt the other man shift next to him. On instinct, Jimin took Yoongi’s cigarette out of his hand before he could even think of lighting it. “Ah, no. I don’t like the taste of this in my kisses.” Jimin frowned at him, but Yoongi knew there was no trace of bitterness in his expression.
“But I like to smoke after stuff like this. Or at least after jack off.” Jimin only shook his head.
Yoongi took his lyric journal and opened it to a marked page titled ‘Stuff 2 Do’, proudly marking off 'bone jimin' from his list.
"Was that the first thing in the list?" Jimin rested his head on Yoongi's shoulder. "Damn, I should've made one too... What else do you have?"
"The usual stuff that tourists like to do. We can see the Hall of Fame and stuff. I wanted to show you what real burgers and fries taste like, too. There's a pride parade next week, and then you can see one of my shows." Yoongi said casually, but Jimin could feel his boyfriend's heart banging underneath his hand.
Jimin awed, but he was pretty sure he would react the same even if Yoongi told him he was going to take him on a tour of trash cans around the city. "I can see you perform? With Namjoon?!"
"Yeah. I w-wrote something for you. He's just there to drink beer... Thought I might perform it on the street during the parade." Yoongi's cheeks turned to a light shade of pink. "Anyway," He cleared his throat, "We could drive to San Francisco for a day, we could check out Chinatown or whatever."
Jimin's laugh turned softer, his eyes either falling shut, or he was just smiling. Yoongi couldn't tell. He felt the steady breathing of his lover next to him. Jimin was exhausted, he has no idea how they managed to have sex. Making sure that Jimin was fully asleep, Yoongi pressed his lips to Jimin's cheek and took off the medal that he'd insisted on wearing. He was sure that Jimin was never going to take it off, he wouldn't either.
Yoongi looked at the bottom of his list. Amongst all the other, obsolete bullets in his to-do list, there was one promise that he would do anything for it to come true. If Jimin can win a competition to go to Los Angeles for him, he would do the same.
"One day I'm going to move back to Korea, you know?" He said at the sleeping man next to him. "I'm gonna be a rapper over there, back home. I'm gonna get away from my dad. I can be with you, it'll be great."
Yoongi knew he wasn't going to do so any time soon, but he focused on the moment. He thought of the remaining thirty days he had left with Jimin. Nine-thousand six-hundred and ten kilometers turned had into a few inches in a span of just a day. The moment felt like it could last forever. Yoongi wouldn't change it for the world. Mostly because he didn't want to get up in the morning, but if this was what love felt like in real life, with a human being he could touch and feel, he could give it a shot.
