LOGO ANNOUNCES ONLINE WINNER FOR RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE
“Nina Flowers”chosen as online finalist to compete on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.
NEW YORK, NY - September 9, 2008 - Logo, a division of Viacom Inc.’s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks, today announced after two months of fierce competition and online voting on RuPaul's Drag Race, a winner has been chosen to be one of the competitors for RuPaul’s Drag Race, Logo’s new competition reality series starring RuPaul in the search for America’s next superstar drag queen that will premiere in January 2009.
After two months of glam, glitter and show-stopping performances, “Nina Flowers” of Denver, Colorado was chosen to be one of nine competitors for RuPaul’s Drag Race. Beginning on May 13, 2008 the fight to become the next drag superstar began online with the official RuPaul’s Drag Race casting website. Aiming to fill the last coveted position as one of the nine contestants for this one-of-a-kind competition reality series, 762 stage divas and sound sirens joined online, garnering over 600,000 votes.
With over 285,000 daily visitors, and about 3 million overall page views in just eight weeks, RuPaulsDragRace.com proved to be one of the most groundbreaking events in drag history. Drag performing hopefuls submitted user-generated content including videos, blogs and photos to win the hearts of voters. After three rounds of lip-synching to their favorite pop artists, submitting music videos and other showing their inner “Supermodel,” Nina Flowers was chosen as the winner.
The eight, one-hour episode series is expected to debut on Logo’s digital cable channel in early 2009. Joining RuPaul as judge, fashion journalist and author Merle Ginsberg and Bravo’s Project Runway fan favorite Santino Rice will decide who deserves to be the next up-and-coming drag queen superstar.
The most famous drag queen in the world, RuPaul will host, mentor and judge this one-of-a-kind reality competition. Playing a dual role, RuPaul, the drag queen, will reign supreme in all judging and eliminations, while RuPaul, the man, will help guide the contestants as they prepare for each challenge. The show will gather the next generation of outrageous, up-and-coming drag queens to fight for the title (and tiara) as top drag queen.
