If you substitute 'firebends' for 'ride', anyway, 'Zuko' for 'Captain Emo', you'll know exactly what's going on. He's chosen the place the fewest people will go to wave his hands and kick his feet and spit fire in the air -- the Art Room.
The sculpture that everyone hates dances with him -- showing other times he's 'bent in the past. Lots of violence in that boy's past, alrighty. He ignores, except when they show he and his uncle going through his training (studying the stance, putting the movements on slow motion playback)...
But he does stop, just once, for a girl hiding her eyes while he foolishly lit lanterns. He frowns, and returns to his practice.
