Janiwota Starter Pack - Where can I get Johnny's content online?
1. Video content available officially - dramas, movies and variety
If you follow a Johnny’s group that has an official YouTube channel, you will most likely find videos with English subtitles added, such as the ones below.
There are also dramas starring Johnny’s idols which are now available on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney Plus and Viki. However, please note that certain streaming services or shows may not be available in your country.
TVer Japan is a streaming service for Japanese variety shows and dramas. As many Johnnys host or appear in weekly variety shows, this is a convenient resource. Please note that you will need a VPN service in order to access TVer videos outside of Japan. As the service is catered for a domestic audience, all content is in Japanese and no English subtitles are provided.
2. Music content available officially
Unfortunately, most Johnny’s artistes do not release music on streaming services as the agency emphasizes on CD sales and wants fans to support the groups by purchasing physical copies singles or albums. On a whole, Japanese consumers still remain loyal to the CD format as record labels often bundle perks along with Japanese music singles and albums.
However, there are some groups which have gone against this convention and released music digitally in recent years, such as Domoto Tsuyoshi, Domoto Koichi, Arashi, KAT-TUN and Travis Japan.
Generally, you will only be able to access a group’s music online via their YouTube page.
