What a day!

Well, it's official. I have a niece! Danica Camryn Ward. :)

Mom and baby are doing well. Dani's small of course because she's 5 weeks premature. They wanted her to be at least 5 pounds and she was 4 pounds, 14 ounces, which is close. She has good color and everything looks great. The only concern is that her hearbeat is a little fast so they have her in the NICU for monitoring to be on the safe side. They wouldn't let us hold her but eventually they did let us visit and touch her. She's got a full head of hair and her arms and legs are pretty fuzzy. :) She was responsive when I touched her. She curled her fingers when I touched her palm, and she winced and kicked a little when I touched the bottom of her foot. I guess she's ticklish.

We were hoping she'd be born at 6:54 because it would be 9/8/07 6:54 (plus Deena was in room 3, floor 2). She was born at 5:43 instead. Oh well. :)

Because she was so early, Jim & Deena were totally unprepared. As I said, the birthing class was supposed to be tomorrow. None of the baby stuff was even unpacked, let alone assembled. And they don't have the furniture for her room yet! Fortunately they have a cradle though so she'll have somewhere to sleep when she comes home.

I just got home a little while ago. I went home with Jim and helped him open up and assemble stuff they needed right away, take the tags off clothes and stuff and wash them, clean up a bit, stuff like that. He was exhausted and I didn't want him to have to deal with all that by himself. Tomorrow morning I'll call Deena and get a shopping list from her because there are some important things they still need, like bottles.

This is all so exciting! :D
