[Due to the accumulated number of people screwed up and/or created through science here at

'Stretched out' as in he's taking up all three cushions, so if you're looking for a seat, too bad.]

[Ion slips into the den, glancing around for other people who might hear them before coming to a stop still a goodly distance away from the couch. Haine is one of his 'siblings' that Ion knows better than to take unawares.]
Ah, Haine! I was wondering, if you have the time and don't mind, if you'd help me with something.

He's listening.]

[So Ion glances to the side a bit, before casually rubbing at one of his ears, meeting Haine's gaze meaningfully as he does so. Then just as casually he drops his hand, keeping his voice cheerful, calm, slightly apologetic--normal.]
I'm sorry to bother you, but I saw today that one of the rose bushes I'm helping Mom grow isn't placed very well: it's too close to the side of the house, so it isn't getting all the sun it needs. And...I'm afraid I'm quite strong enough to do it all on my own...
Reply
After the obvious set of signs, Haine looks back to the ceiling, snorting after a couple seconds.] Tch. If you can't get anyone else in this damn house... [Sits up with some well-played reluctance, shoving his hands in his pockets as he stands and gives Ion a frowning look of Well? Lead the way.]
Reply
[...But they're still too close to the house right now for Ion to risk saying anything just yet, so he keeps up the minor small-talk as Haine digs, helping with the trowel as much as he can.]
I thought maybe we could put it more out in the open somewhere. I looked earlier, and found a spot that I think would be very nice.
...I do apologise for bothering you with this, Haine.

[Ion keeps up the cheerful, slightly apologetic smile until they're well away from the house and there's nothing anywhere nearby that could be concealing any sort of bug; he'd checked the area earlier, under cover of looking for a place for the rosebush, and once they're there, his smile drops away, leaving an anxious expression in its place.]
Kazuya Mishima stopped by earlier today. He said a lot of things...about Nill. It sounds like he's planning something, some sort of tests, or experiments... I don't know if Wesker is involved or not, but knowing him, it's certainly not unthinkable. And I thought, since you're closest to Nill, if anyone would want to know, or try to do something about it...
[Ion's dropped to his knees by now, keeping up the appearance of digging a new hole for the bush. Wesker probably has this place watched by satellite, so while they don't have to worry about their lips being read or their voices being overhear, being obviously idle could still get them in trouble.]

Finally, he snorts. Birds of a feather, these bastards; Kazuya all but is a second Wesker--not as strong, if Haine's gauged him right, and more to have his people work for him than get his hands dirty himself, but he'd be equally not missed if something happened to him.]
...Did he say when he'd be back?
Reply
[He pauses, briefly biting his lip, because the only thing he can think of to really keep this from happening will be next to impossible to pull off. But it's also the only way.]
...I think...you have to get her out of here. You can't fight them forever, and I can't protect Nill at all. It's the only way to keep them from doing whatever they want to her.
Reply
But that doesn't mean he's opposed to trying. Of course, if he finds out that Kazuya's staying anywhere in town, it'd be a lot easier to just hunt him down and kill him. But this is all he has to go on for the moment, and even killing Kazuya would be a temporary solution--cutting a limb off the problem, not the head.] ...That's a lot easier said than done. If it was as simple as kicking in enough heads, you know I'd do it--but you also know as well as I do that people don't just run from Wesker. They hide until he drags them out again.
[A pause as he digs up a particularly stubborn root; his tone remains matter-of-fact] Just saying that could get you killed, you know.
Reply
Yes, I know. But I cannot simply stand by and do nothing if there's even the slightest chance that I can stop this from happening.
I'm not saying it will be easy, but I'm sure you already know that. I have a few ideas, but it's hard to find places to talk about this sort of thing, so we need to take advantage of this as much as possible.

Of course, no one has to tell him that it's a small sacrifice to make, considering what's at stake.
He doesn't pause in his digging.] ...Let me have it, then.

[He takes another, harder dig at a clump of dirt.]
I happened on a list of Mom's contacts when I was helping her clean her study the other day. I tried a few of the numbers when I came out here earlier--[Here, he digs down into the loosened soil, then flashes a small, pink cell phone with some cutesy animal phone straps dangling from it, all of which look pretty dirty now.]--I borrowed a cell phone from a classmate last week, since I'd planned on seeing if there was anything I could do even before this...I've been pretty worried about Luke lately...but Nill's situation is more pressing at the moment, so I'll focus on that first. And if this works--a big "if" at this point, I realise--maybe you can help me get Luke out somehow as well ( ... )

When Ion finishes, though, Haine glances sidelong at him, a blatant kind of skepticism overcoming his surprise and curiosity. He goes back to digging for some ten seconds before replying.]
I get why she'd want to help screw over Wesker, but-- [He slams the shovel down hard as he hits a particularly stubborn clump of dirt] --you sure you can trust her? Wesker aside... I'm sure she hasn't forgotten just why Chris was killed.
[That's as blunt as he'll be on the subject.]
Reply
[It's a sad, strangely old-looking expression that comes across Ion's face now--the mixing of a tired smile and something like regret.]
How can you ever really be sure that anyone is trustworthy? It's impossible to know almost anything for certain...but if anyone has a real reason to want to work against Wesker, I think it would be her.
[He lowers his eyes, fiddling idly with his trowel.] ...And Mr. Chris tried to fight Wesker head-on. He should have known better...and I really don't understand why he did it, but...at least he tried. I can't help thinking that there was some worth in it just for that. And perhaps there's something to it all that we don't know about, a reason for his sacrifice... Who can say?
[He looks up, his smile a little more real now, his tone a little lighter.] Of course, that doesn't mean we're ( ... )
