Note: I completely blame Rhoni and Erin for feeding my random and sudden addiction to throwing a 19 year old Wyatt into his first year on the force.
Cleaning House
He was not making any friends in the upper class social circles of Central City. Most of the Tin Men tended to turn a blind eye to the fact that one or two of the Nobles brought in girls from the country and then dumped them in the Sin District when they were done with them.
Wyatt Cain thought that a cleaning house was in order.
In public his superiors gave him stern recriminations; in private they patted him on the back. It had felt too good dragging prissy, uppity Lord Jameson into the Central Booking, scuffed and in cuffs.
Above and Beyond
The girl’s arms went up around his neck, as she clung to his chest. Clutching his own arms tighter around her, he swept her up and got to his feet. The pained murmur from the mess of blankets and bruised flesh made his jaw tighten. Someone would pay for that.
Technically, this sort of rescue was outside of his jurisdiction. He was ordered to keep order within the Sin District. Not to be the white knight to underprivileged women stuck in bad situations, pulling them out and returning them to their families. Technically, Wyatt Cain could not possibly care less.
Boy Scout Syndrome
The term was ‘kicking ass and taking names.’ Or at least that was what his partner Doc described it as, as he threw his hand in to help the younger man he had been assigned.
That Boy Scout Syndrome rarely lasted in this part of the city; all too soon it fled in the face of the sheer daunting task of trying to change anything.
But some fiery gleam in the blonde’s eyes made the jaded Tin Man think that this might just be the person they needed. That the blue-eyed young man was the usher of a new era.
Bringing Work Home
The first time Wyatt Cain brought home a young prostitute; his blonde wife had raised an eyebrow and planted her fists on her hips. They had been married not even a year and he brings some little…
The girl whimpered in pain, and Adora melted immediately. “Put her on the sofa, we’ll talk about you rescuing strays later.”
After cleaning up and feeding the jewel-eyed woman would couldn‘t have been more than sixteen, and tucking her into their own bed, she turned to her husband. Leaning up, she pressed a kiss to his cheek, “You’re a good man Wyatt Cain.”
Helping Out
Eloise was not the last of the girls that Wyatt and Adora Cain helped out of the city and back to their families, but just the first. He would bring home some battered young waif; she would clean them up, put a good hot meal into their bellies and put them to sleep on the tiny bed in the spare bedroom.
Originally it had been Jeb’s nursery, but it was easier just to move his crib into their bedroom. And it seems that it had the added benefit of calming the girls down and letting them sleep beneath painted clouds.
